About 360 Degree Feedback
360 degree feedback is an excellent way
to seek out structured feedback from the different categories
of people a person works with – usually their
line manager, their colleagues, clients and direct reports.
It’s a powerful self awareness tool which provides
a rich source of data about an individual’s strengths
and weaknesses. The information can be used to weigh
up behavioural performance and also to plan development
activity, and as such is a potent agent for individual
and organizational change!
The Corporate Leadership Council (2003)
found that of 369 organisations surveyed in the UK,
the most beneficial outcomes of implementing a 360 degree
feedback programme were as follows:
- Development of great leaders
- Improvement of individual performance
- Improvement of corporate performance
How does it work?
The candidate chooses a number of raters
from each category: each completes a questionnaire about
the candidate and the candidate completes the same questionnaire
about him/herself. The results are compiled into a report
which anonymises the feedback – only the self ratings
and manager ratings are attributed to their author. This
ensures that raters can confidently state their true thoughts
and feelings without being personally identified.
The technology
We use state of the art, web-based
technology to ensure that the 360 feedback tool works
exactly as intended, all the time. Using our online
system speeds up the process for the candidate and the
administrator and also ensures the security and privacy
of the data. The highly evolved technical platform ensures
that the candidate and rater experience is slick and
intuitive, minimizing the burden of completion for individuals
in your organization.
Frequently asked questions
When is a good time to introduce
360 degree feedback?
If you are running a leadership
or management development programme, 360 is a great
self-awareness tool to use prior to the programme. If
repeated after the development has taken place, it is
a measure of change in behaviour and of the effectiveness
of the programme. Similarly, prior to a performance
review, 360 adds a key dimension to conversations about
performance, typically providing the ‘why’
in evaluation of whether an individual has met their
business objectives.
How much does it cost?
360 degree feedback is an extremely
cost effective way of enabling structured feedback and
contributing to behavioural change. The exact cost depends
on whether you wish to use one of LDL’s own 360
programmes or web enable your own questionnaire. Please
